£8,706 rising to £17,972 per annum on successful progression of probation and training which includes completion of an apprentice framework and work related skills. There is an apprentice salary progression scheme that operates over the 24 months.

Persona are offering an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Support Worker to join our Learning Disability Day Service.  The prime aim of the Learning Disability Day Service is to support customers to maintain and develop their independence skills, to ensure their engagement in community activities and to meet their physical and emotional needs.  As an Apprentice Support Worker you will be responsible for supporting learning disabled adults either on a 1:1 basis or in groups, and will work closely with members of your team to ensure that appropriate support is provided to our customers and that the associated paperwork is completed accurately.

The service is always evolving and improving so you will need to be able to embrace change and promote the continuous development of both the service and your own role within it.  As a member of staff in Day Services you may be asked to work at any of the day service bases across the borough, but you will have a named service location as your administrative base.  You will play a vital role in the service’s continuous development by maintaining positive and open communications with families, carers, colleagues and other professionals.  As the service operates within community settings, the role will also involve some working alongside the general public therefore excellent communication, advocacy skills and a diplomatic approach is essential.

The Apprentice Support Worker post is a physical job where there is a requirement to move and handle people, support them into the community using public transport and support in activities such as swimming, voluntary work, dance or sports. Consequently, you will need to have good health and the physical capacity to carry out these duties. 

Satisfactory disclosure at the appropriate level under the Disclosure and Barring Service is required prior to appointment.

  • IT skills using Microsoft Office – emails, calendar, spreadsheets, data base, formatting letters and other documents

Qualifications Necessary:

As you will be undertaking an Apprenticeship Framework, successful candidates will be required to hold GCSE grades A-C or equivalent in Mathematics, and English Language (or predicted grades).

What’s involved?

During the 2 year fixed-term apprenticeship you will receive support to achieve the full apprenticeship framework which may include some days attending college. 

Once candidates have been shortlisted, successful candidates will be invited to an initial interview for the apprenticeship scheme which may include a short test/assessment of your skills; this will be followed by a second interview with the manager/s of the role for which you are applying.
