The two centres offer short stay, respite accommodation and are used by older people, including people with dementia, from across the borough.
The event had a number of activities taking place including:
- entertainment provided by local artists
- tours of the services
- demonstrations of our new interactive projector
- Shooting Stars taster sessions
The events were attended by existing customers and their families. In addition, local families attended the event and enjoyed meeting customers, staff and joining in the activities on offer. One little boy, drew pictures and gave these to each of the customers who were staying at Spurr House.
Kat Sowden, Managing Director of Persona Care and Support, said: “Care Home Open Day is our annual opportunity to welcome the local community into our short stay accommodation. It’s a chance to show people the fantastic facilities we have here and what people can expect from a temporary stay with us. Whether your visit is planned or unplanned, an emergency or just an opportunity to take a break you will find a warm welcome at Spur House and Elmhurst.
“In some ways it’s a chance for us to explode some of the myths about care homes. These are places where you can come and relax and take it easy if that’s what’s best for you. But if you would like some social interaction, and to enjoy games and activities, then this is also the place for you. You will have the privacy of your own bedroom and bathroom, as well as a chance to meet and interact with others in our communal areas and facilities.”
