As a society we are moving more and more into a digital age. Some would argue that the speed of change has accelerated in the past 10 years. As a care giving business we were aware that the need to extend our digital capacity was getting to the point where action was needed.
This was all compounded by the arrival of Covid-19. Vulnerable people who relied on day services were no longer able to get their daily dose of ‘Living their best life’ with our friendly staff. Services were pared back to the bare essential, minimum. But what about the people left at home?
This is where our new activity hub came to life. The goal of the hub was to collect information, activities and invitations for people to join in at home. The purpose of the hub was that, for the time being at least, they could get their dose of the friendly interaction they get while in service, whilst staying safe at home. It was a collective effort across many teams within Persona and we started bringing this all together in July ready for a launch in August. We were able to do this with financial support from the Council’s Innovation fund which we used to purchase equipment (including tablets) so that customers were able to access the content.

The creation of the Activity Hub was born out of the need to combat Covid-19. The reality is that it will be relevant to many people well into the future, forming a core feature of social care provision.
