Joan has been a Councillor for Bury Council for over 20 years, representing Unsworth ward. She is part of a number of committees including Health Scrutiny and is also involved in a number of organisations including Bury Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted. 

Joan joined the Persona board in 2023 as the Council nominated representative. Joan's working career has been within the NHS as a nurse and she has also served as a magistrate.
