Autism Acceptance Month 2026

13 April 2026

April is Autism Acceptance Month but we're always asking ourselves:

  • What do we want to do to support autistic people in Bury and how can we do this to the best of our ability?
  • When we say we enable support that makes a positive difference - what does it mean in real life?

For us, it's ensuring everyone we support and work with feels

  • informed
  • safe
  • empowered

To make it easier for everyone to get involved, learn and achieve their goals, we've been supporting our caring colleagues and those who support them with the tools they need to be aware of different people's needs and feel confident to make reasonable adjustments, whatever they may be.

That includes training in:

  • Oliver McGowan Training
  • Training in Systematic Instruction (TSI training)
  • Intensive Interaction training

and wherever we can, we're learning from trainers with lived experience who are paid for their time and expertise.

It’s not only people we support who will benefit from this; our colleagues will too. When we understand people's strengths and needs better, everyone benefits: people with autism, learning disabilities and other neurodivergences or additional needs, whether they have a diagnosis or not.

Thank you to these people for making our learning possible:
