We celebrated Cultural Food & Music Month this May by exploring cultures through their food and music.

Escape 1

 

What did you celebrate?

Indian culture.

 

What did you do?

We created display boards with items from India, crafted dreamcatchers, tried bollywood dancing and tasted a range of Indian dishes.

 

 

Escape 2

What did you celebrate?

American culture.

 

What did you do?

People we support made themed display boards, created cowboy hats, had a go at line dancing and ate American foods.

 

 

Ramsbottom Community Centre

What did you celebrate?

Eid.

 

What did you do?

We enjoyed henna art, made hats and enjoyed a selection of sweets.

 

 

Elmhurst

What did you celebrate?

Food from around the world, including Spain, Nigeria, India, China, America, Turkey, America, England and Mexico.

 

What did you do?

Staff brought in dishes to share, which were absolutely delicious and everyone enjoyed the chance to experience new flavours and spices. We also held a world quiz and enjoyed music from different cultures.

 

 

Bolton Road Community Centre

What did you celebrate?

The world, with a focus on Asia.

 

What did you do?

Everyone created decorations, wore traditional Asian clothing and enjoyed homemade food kindly prepared by Mrs Ahmed, the mum of someone we support. Then we listened to music from around the world. 

 

 

Sunnybank

What did you celebrate?

Irish culture.

 

What did you do?

We cooked Irish stew and baked no-guinness cake with cream, which looked like a pint of guiness. Staff dressed up and we listened to folk music during lunch.

 

 

Hoyles

What did you celebrate?

Mexico.

 

What did you do?

We enjoyed Mexican foods like fajitas, nachos with dips, churros and tres leches cake, while listening to Mexican music. We also tried non-alcoholic tequila slammers for the first time and played a game of cut the string to drop a prize, where everyone won something.

 

 

Elton Community Centre

What did you celebrate?

English culture.

 

What did you do?

A day out to the seaside with fish and chips followed by choc ices, games and a special visit from Daffy Duck, who people we support loved meeting.
