Arthur & Martin: Finding friendship in Lockdown

December 2019 saw Woodbury answering an emergency call to aid Martin when his parent, who was his main carer, passed away. Arthur’s staff team had to stay at home as they were in the shielding category during Covid-19, which was why Arthur came to Woodbury. But whilst staying at Woodbury, Martin met Arthur.

During Covid, Martin and Arthur stayed at Woodbury and through lockdown, strong bonds were formed between the two. Staff at Woodbury quickly noticed that they got along well with each other and had similar interests. It was through this new camaraderie that the staff saw an opportunity for Martin to move in with Arthur, as Arthur’s previous housemate had passed away a few months prior to him moving to Woodbury.

Martin’s social worker contacted his brother, because Martin had always lived with his parent and they wanted to be sure he would be happy in his new living arrangement. And so, after having a look round Arthur’s property, Martin’s brother agreed that this was the right move.

When shielding had ended Arthur was able to return home, as his Supported Living staff team was able to return to work. Soon Martin followed Arthur into his new home and a new chapter of his life where both he and Arthur will live it to their best, thanks to the team at Woodbury and Supported Living.
