Mark's Baptism Journey

Mark, who is supported by our Supported Living team, has finally been celebrating his baptism after a year long wait. It meant a lot to him and he's told us why:

What is Baptism?

Baptism is a new start; a way of washing away our sins.

When did you decide you wanted to be baptised?

I made the decision about a year ago.

Why did you want to be baptised?

I had seen other people being baptised and I wanted to feel a part of the congregation properly.

Was there a reason you waited over a year to get baptised?

Everyone wanted to make sure it was the right choice for me. I had meetings, risk assessments and conversations with my brother before moving forward.

Was it hard waiting a year to be baptised?

Yes it was, because I just wanted to be baptised.

Can you tell us who was there?

All of my friends, my brother and my support workers came to my baptism.

How did you feel when you were baptised?

I felt very special. I now feel truly part of the church.

Do you feel more connected to your faith now you've been baptised?

Yes, the congregation are now part of my family.

Did you celebrate afterwards?

Yes! We celebrated by going out for a meal together at Jewel in the Crown in Bury - I was very happy.

Who supported you the most during your journey?

My operational support officer supported me the most. She arranged all the meetings and helped me get ready to be baptised. My support team also helped me on the day as they brought everything I needed.

Why was it important to you that you were baptised? Would you recommend it to other people?

I believe everyone should be baptised. It's a way to wash away all their sins, and gain a big family in the church.

Congratulations Mark!
