About you
You are someone with a ‘can-do’ attitude; you can develop positive relationships with people and you are passionate about supporting people to reach their potential.
You want to make a positive difference to people’s lives and take pride in delivering high quality support. You believe that people have a right to control and define their own lives regardless of disability and see your role as enabling them to do this by supporting them to do a variety of activities and take up opportunities both in our centres and in their local community.
You don’t need to have previous experience of working in social care, what’s important is that you are caring, a good communicator, patient, creative, able to work on your own initiative, show empathy and also work as part of a team. Most of all we are looking for someone who shares our values. You will need to make the effort to get to know the people you support so a relationship of trust can be built.
No one will meet every single desired qualification. If your experience looks a little different from what we're saying and you think you can bring value to the role, we'd love to learn more about you!
About the role
You will be working alongside a team of staff within our day services in Bury, with usual hours of work between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday.
You will be responsible for supporting adults with learning and physical disabilities to get involved in activities they choose, either in groups or individually. You will be supporting people to use public transport and with activities like swimming, voluntary work, dance sessions and sports.
This is a physical job where you will need to move and position people (also called moving and handling) and help people who use wheelchairs to manoeuvre indoors and out in their community. You may also need to support people with personal care, like going to the bathroom or taking medication.
Being a support worker can be a very rewarding job. Even though the role can be hard and often challenging, making a positive difference to someone’s life and enabling them to become more independent brings feelings of accomplishment and satisfaction. It’s a great career choice for those who enjoy a varied job role and lots of interaction with others.
Further information about the role can be found in the job description.
