Easter Competition

This year's Easter Competition was a little different to previous years... As part of our Green Themed Quarter and to celebrate Earth Day (22nd April) we asked teams to create Easter displays using environmentally friendly materials - things they've recycled like tins, plastic bottles, cans, etc. Our teams did an excellent job at getting creative and they made some beautiful displays!

Our judges were Kat Sowden, managing director, and Carmen Gillon-Weerasignhe, green ambassador and manager of Learning Disability Day Services.

They visited each team and judged the displays based on three key areas:

  • how creative it is
  • contribution from people we support
  • inclusion of environmentally friendly materials

The prize for our winning service is £50 and our two runner-ups each get £25.

And the winner is...

Bolton Road Community Centre!

Daniel* was proud to tell us all about his team's display and how they transformed egg boxes and milk cartons into masterpieces. He even went the extra mile and researched how to draw the perfect bowtie to add extra detail to the chickens they made out of toilet roll tubes. Daniel praised his team and said everyone took part in making something for their display and they'd been working hard creating it for weeks.

Well done Bolton Road!!

And the runner ups...

Hoyles Community Centre

To capture the true essence of Easter and Spring, Hoyles created a colourful wall display with lots of rabbits! We hear everyone took part in creating a section of the display and lots of thought was put into selecting the materials they used for each section.

They used materials such as paper, plastic forks, bottle tops, buttons, lolly pop sticks and so much more!

Elmhurst

Both staff and people we support came up with ideas to create a bold, eye-catching display and after spending weeks brainstorming ideas and collecting materials, they were ready to create their masterpiece.

Using materials like tissue from previous events, old pictures, garlands, ribbons, plastic bottles and even an old rug, the team created 'Bernard' (with a silent d) - the carbon-reducing Elmhurst Easter bunny.
